FC Ifeanyi Ubah on Sunday took on the Harmony boys in one of the Match day 3 fixtures of the 2017/2018 Nigerian Professional Football League season in a game that saw the former manager of the NPFL Galacticos in the person of John Obuh make a return to the fortress years after departing the club via mutual consent in what turned out to be a clash of two teams for the first time since 2015 with the Harmony Boys having the edge after the wins against the Warriors.
Technical Adviser Ladan Bosso made just one change to the side that lost to Niger Tornadoes last Wednesday at the Confluence Stadium Lokoja as Bright Onyedikachi making his first appearance of the season displaced Adegboye Gabriel in the starting eleven.
The game was kick started by the Anambra Warriors applying pressure on their guests with full force and duly took control of the game, as Bright Onyedikachi in the 23rd minute swung in a beautiful ball from a left sided corner and straight to the hitman Godwin Obaje to steer the ball into the net with his head, a move that turned out to be his last act of the match as the hitman scored his third goal in his third game this season was replaced by the lethal Chijioke Alaekwe as a result of an injury in a first half that saw the Anambra Landlords miss a host of chances as the mercurial Seka Pascal found ways to break up the defensive lines of the Harmony Boys but his efforts were not met with goals as Bright and Awazie has clear chances created by Seka missed and saved by Goalkeeper Jonah Usman in a half that FC Ifeanyi Ubah dominated Kwara United.
The second period kicked of with the Harmony boys on the up and pressing to get an equaliser and they almost did on two occasions first was Michael Ohanu who’s shot was slightly wide off Goalkeeper Drissa Bamba’s goal after he was fed through by Bitrus Dada in the 48minute as Ishaya Magaji went a step closer as his belter beat everyone save for the crossbar to grant relief to the Mammoth crowd at the fortress who finally had another goal to celebrate two minutes later as a forward surge from that near miss saw Chijioke Alaekwe set up Ekene Awazie who showed, calm, poise, composure and finesse to beat his marker, dummy the goalkeeper and slot the ball albeit being in a tight spot into the goal for the match winner and the stamp on all three points in this entertaining affair at the FC Ifeanyi Ubah International Stadium.
