ANAMBRA: It was a joyful day recently at Washington Memorial Grammar School Field, Onitsha when Onitsha branch of Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) defeated their Idemili North counterpart in a soccer competition by six goals to one.
It would be recalled that the soccer tournament was organized by Nigerian Bar Association, Eastern Zone and sponsored by Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN).
The chairman Nigeria Bar Association, NBA Onitsha branch,Bar Ikenna Chibuzor in an interview shortly after the match said the purpose of the football tournament going on among Nigeria Bar Association Easter Zone was to bring unity, peace and love among legal practitioners.
He stated that legal practitioners are known for court room activities but today so many of them have been discovered as good footballers even as he stated that legal practitioners are also engaged in other sporting activities.
The branch chairman added that the Bar is even ready to sponsor any talented footballer among the practitioners.
He disclosed that the tournament is for Eastern zone of the Nigeria Bar Association and commended the sponsor of the game, Arthur Obi Okafor (SAN) for his love and care for his colleagues.
He observed that the tournament would not only bring peace, love and unity among lawyer but will uplift the physical fitness of the participants.
Also in an interview, Barr. Lorretha Ikwuka who represented the sponsor, Arthur Obi Okafor at the event said the motive behind the tournament was to strengthen the unity and love among legal practitioners.
“It will also tell the public that lawyers are not only good in court room but are good in outside activities as exhibited by the two teams that played today”, she started.
She commended Onitsha branch for their victory and enjoined Idemili North branch not to lose hope but should work harder.
Chief Coach of Onitsha NBA Barr. Godwin Madubuko thanked his players for given Onitsha victory. He attributed their victory to hardwork and experience. The Chief Coach also commended idemili branch for their courage and urged them not to lose hope as according to him, tomorrow is another day.
Also the Chief Coach of Idemili, Barr. Emeka Anakpe expressed his disappointment on the poor performances of his team, which according to him, was due to lack of strong players but was optimistic that they will do better in future tournament. He congratulated Onitsha branch for their victory.
