Nollywood veteran actress, Kate Henshaw, has asserted that the only things reaching the “mailboxes” of impoverished Nigerians are additional taxes and burdens. Henshaw’s statement comes in response to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio’s assurance to his colleagues during a recent plenary session that they had received “prayers” as they embarked on a recess.

Akpabio initially conveyed that “a token has been sent to our various accounts by the Clerk of the National Assembly” to enable a pleasant holiday period. However, he later revised his wording to refer to the allocation as “prayers” sent to their “mailboxes.”

Numerous individuals, particularly on social media, expressed dissatisfaction with the statement, suggesting that lawmakers demonstrated insensitivity towards the struggles of less privileged Nigerians.

Kate Henshaw lamented that the lawmakers appear to disregard the plight of the poor citizens. In her statement, she emphasized, “The only ‘prayers’ going into the ‘mail’ of Nigerians is more taxes, more burdens, more ‘grin & bear it,’ more ‘we don’t give a f@#k’.”

She concluded her message by addressing the politicians meant to serve and offer relief to their constituents, stating, “Happy holidays to the ones meant to serve & bring succor to their constituents. Nothing do una jare. What’s the worst that can happen? Morning.”
