According to analysts, the upcoming election will be a head-to-head competition between the current president and Samura Kamara of the All Peoples Congress (APC) as the president is aiming for another and final term.

In an effort to promote harmony throughout the West African region, President Julius Bio of Sierra Leone urged all voters to engage in peaceful conduct.

After voting at polling center 16203 in Wilberforce, Freetown, Sierra Leone, Mr. Bio placed a call.

Fatima Bio, the president’s spouse, joined him in voting at the polling center amidst the ongoing presidential, parliamentary, and local government elections.

After voting, Mr. Bio spoke with reporters and urged citizens to refrain from using aggression and behave in a calm and peaceful manner.

Encouraging voters to display tolerance towards their opponents, he requested them to wait peacefully for the outcome of their votes.

In the upcoming election, the leader and nominee of the SLPP are vying for a second and last tenure, in what appears to be a head-to-head competition against Samura Kamara, aged 72, who is representing the APC.

Several political parties have chosen to field their own presidential candidates for the upcoming elections. Among these candidates are Bah Mohamed Chernoh who represents the National Democratic Alliance, Coker Prince of the People’s Democratic Party, Jonjo Mohamed running for the Citizens Democratic Party, Kabuta Henry nominated by the United National Peoples Party, and Kakay Iye for the Alliance Democratic Party.

Running for election is Kamara Musa, representing the Peace and Liberation Party; Margai Francis, from the People’s Movement for Democratic Change; Saccoh Dougakoro, with the Revolutionary United Front Party; Sandy Patrick, who is aligned with the National Unity and Reconciliation Party; Sowa-Turay Mohamed, a candidate from the United Democratic Movement; and Williams Victor, representing the Republic National Independent Party.

Sierra Leoneans will participate in the fifth election since the conclusion of their civil war, which happened 21 years ago. Along with voting for their next president, voters will also cast their ballots for parliamentary representatives and local council members.

In the event that no candidate for the presidency receives at least 55 percent of the valid votes during the first round of voting, the electoral provisions stipulate a run-off between the two leading candidates. This vote will be held two weeks following the announcement of the initial result.
