Good luck Jonathan, the ex-president of Nigeria, and Yemi Osinbajo, the most recent former vice president, are currently heading the group of electoral surveyors for the ongoing general elections in Sierra Leone.

As the West African Elders Forum 2023 Election Mission heads to Sierra Leone, Mr. Jonathan takes the lead while Mr. Osinbajo presides over the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) consisting of 12 members to oversee the country’s elections.

Julius Bio of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and Samura Kamara of the All Peoples Congress (APC) are viewed as the primary contenders in the presidential election, creating a direct competition between them.

The National Democratic Alliance has nominated Bah Mohamed Chernoh, the People’s Democratic Party has chosen Coker Prince, the Citizens Democratic Party has put forward Jonjo Mohamed, the United National Peoples Party has named Kabuta Henry, and the Alliance Democratic Party has selected Kakay Iye.

The upcoming election features a diverse set of candidates, including Kamara Musa of the Peace and Liberation Party, Margai Francis of the People’s Movement For Democratic Change, Saccoh Dougakoro representing the Revolutionary United Front Party, Patrick Sandy from the National Unity and Reconciliation Party, Mohamed Sowa-Turay of the United Democratic Movement, and Williams Victor running with the Republic National Independent Party.

Sierra Leoneans will cast their ballots for not just the president, but also for members of parliament and local councillors. This election will mark the fifth one since the end of the civil war in the country, 21 years prior.
