On Monday, Senate President GodsWill Akpabio unveiled the 74 Standing Committees of the 10th Senate. Out of these committees, members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured chairmanship roles for 48, while the major opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was allocated 18 chairmanship slots. Members of the Labour Party took up four slots, and the Social Democratic Party received two. Additionally, the All Progressive Grand Alliance was granted one slot, as well as the Young People’s Party.

However, the New Nigeria Peoples Party did not receive any chairmanship slots. In response to the allocation of chairmanship slots, Senator Siyako Anthony of PDP Gombe South noted that PDP senators were currently analyzing the list. He further added that it was too early to determine if the committee composition was unfairly skewed, emphasizing the unity of the Senate despite party affiliations. Another lawmaker, who preferred to remain anonymous, concurred with this sentiment and stated that they were closely monitoring the situation.
