On Tuesday, an ad hoc committee from the Lagos State House of Assembly conducted a visit to the Mosafejo Oworonshoki community, where the Lagos State Task Force recently demolished several buildings, leaving residents without shelter.

Chaired by Mr. Nureni Akinsanya of Mushin I Constituency, the committee embarked on this visit to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. Accompanying Akinsanya were committee members Mr. Lukmon Olumoh, Mr. Sanni Okanlawon, Mr. Kehinde Joesph, and Mr. Obafemi Saheed.

Following the initiation of an eight-man committee by the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, to investigate the demolition of buildings in the Kosofe Local Government Area by the state’s task force, Akinsanya’s committee was set into motion.

Akinsanya explained that their visit served two main purposes: to request that the victims of the demolition maintain peace as the lawmakers conducted their investigation and to assess the extent of the damage and the number of individuals affected.

The committee expressed plans to invite officials from the Community Development Committee and the Community Development Area in the region for further inquiries. Akinsanya also urged the affected residents to provide any relevant information that could assist in the ongoing investigation.

In response, the community’s affected members confirmed that the task force halted the demolition following the order from the House of Assembly.

Speaking on behalf of the affected residents, community resident Mr. Olarenwaju Olusegun expressed gratitude to Speaker Obasa and the other lawmakers for their swift response in addressing the community’s predicament.
