Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, inaugurated a specialized security operation known as ‘Operation Crush’ on Tuesday. Speaking at the event in Umuahia, Otti emphasized that ‘Operation Crush’ stands as a robust and coordinated response to the persistent challenge of insecurity affecting various parts of the state, causing distress for many.

Governor Otti clarified that ‘Operation Crush’ operates as a joint task force comprising personnel from different security entities, including members of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, and Nigerian Navy.

The governor outlined the operation’s primary focus, which is to counter the prevalent crimes of kidnapping, armed robbery, and other violent offenses. Specific attention will be directed towards flashpoints within communities in Umunneochi and Isuikwuato LGAs. The intent is to root out criminal hideouts using both the superior weaponry at the task force’s disposal and the operational expertise of its security personnel.

Highlighting the adverse impact of kidnappers and armed robbers on economic and social activities in these communities, Otti asserted that the state would not tolerate their presence any longer. He firmly stated that Abia will not coexist with criminals or those who support them.

Governor Otti made it unequivocal that criminals should depart Abia or prepare to face the consequences. He stressed that while security agents are authorized to employ necessary measures to restore law and order, they are also reminded to avoid any excessive actions that might lead to the unwarranted harassment of innocent citizens.

Abia State’s Commissioner of Police, Kenechukwu Onwumelie, praised Governor Otti for his unwavering commitment to enhancing security within the state.
