The All Progressives Congress (APC) criticized Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki on Tuesday for attributing the poor state of roads in his state to the Federal Government. The state’s opposition party also accused Obaseki of attempting to shift the blame for his perceived “incompetence” onto President Bola Tinubu’s new administration.

In a statement endorsed by the South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, the APC called on Governor Obaseki to refrain from inciting the people of Edo State against President Bola Tinubu’s administration. The party urged patience among Nigerians, assuring them that the process of transformation would soon commence with the screening and swearing in of cabinet ministers, expected in the imminent future.

Earlier, Obaseki, through his Special Adviser on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, had accused the Federal Government of being accountable for the deteriorating condition of federal roads within the state.

Responding, the APC asserted that Obaseki had conveniently chosen to place the blame for his perceived failure on President Tinubu’s administration, which had taken office less than three months ago. This new administration entered office with the intention of eliminating the burdensome fuel subsidy, which had been placing a significant strain on the Federal Government’s limited revenue.

The APC stood firm in its position that Governor Obaseki, who succeeded the former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Adams Oshiomole, had achieved little in his over seven years in office. Instead, he was accused of highlighting his predecessor’s remarkable developmental accomplishments.
