Lagos, Nigeria – Popular Lagos socialite and businessman Abu Abel, whose real name is Olaseni Olayinka, has stirred widespread reactions online after a video showed him arriving at a church service in a luxury Rolls-Royce.

The viral clip captured the moment the socialite drove into the premises of a Celestial Church of Christ in Lagos before stepping out in a white garment and heading straight into the service. He was later seen taking a front-row seat and interacting with church leaders during the service. (Legit.ng – Nigeria news.)

According to Abu Abel, his visit to the church was a personal moment of gratitude and reflection, as he stated that he took time out to worship and appreciate God for his progress and blessings. (Legit.ng – Nigeria news.)

However, the video quickly gained traction across social media platforms, sparking debates around wealth, influence, and equality within religious spaces. Many Nigerians questioned why the socialite appeared to receive special treatment, particularly being ushered to the front while other worshippers sat elsewhere.

Some social media users criticised what they described as classism in churches, arguing that places of worship should promote equality regardless of social or financial status. Others expressed concern over the increasing visibility of wealth display in religious environments, suggesting that it may distract from the core purpose of worship.

At the same time, a number of supporters defended Abu Abel, noting that individuals should be free to express gratitude to God in their own way, regardless of their social standing or lifestyle.

The development adds to ongoing conversations in Nigeria about the relationship between wealth, influence, and religious institutions, especially as high-profile individuals continue to attract attention when participating in public worship.
