Senate President Godswill Akpabio conveyed to senators in the Upper Chamber that the National Assembly’s clerk would be initiating financial deposits into their respective bank accounts to facilitate a more enjoyable holiday period.

The statement, made by Akpabio, emerged in an online video on Wednesday, August 9, prior to the adjournment motion that marked the conclusion of the Senate’s ministerial screening.

Akpabio remarked, “To enhance our holiday experience, a small sum has been forwarded to our individual accounts by the National Assembly’s clerk.”

Shortly thereafter, some of Akpabio’s colleagues alerted him to the live television broadcast of the plenary session.

In response to this, Akpabio made a subsequent statement seemingly to retract his earlier revelation.

He stated, “I retract the previous statement.”

He continued, “In the interest of fostering an enjoyable holiday, the Senate President has dispatched prayers to your email addresses to aid in your safe travels and return.”

The Senate successfully concluded the screening of 45 out of a total of 48 ministerial nominees sent by President Bola Tinubu.

Reportedly, individuals such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Senator Abubakar Danlandi from Taraba State, and former Nexim Bank Managing Director Stella Okotete are pending screening due to ongoing security assessments.
