On Wednesday, unidentified gunmen carried out an attack, setting fire to the residence of Jerry Alagboso, a former member of the House of Representatives who had represented the Orlu/Orsu/Oru East federal constituency of Imo State. The incident took place in his hometown within the Orsu council area of the state. Reports indicate that the attack occurred during the night on Tuesday, causing turmoil in the Orsu area.
According to an anonymous source from the community, the assailants forcibly entered the building by uprooting windows and doors. They proceeded to loot the property, making off with a significant amount of belongings. The situation has caused a surge in tension within the community, leading to residents fleeing and widespread fear. The implications of this event for the state are concerning.
This incident follows another recent act of violence in the same area, where the palace of a traditional ruler, Eze Ezekiel I. Nwokedi, in Okwuru, Orsu Ihitteukwa, was set ablaze less than a week ago.
Confirming the occurrence, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye, conveyed that the Commissioner of Police unequivocally condemned the heinous act. In response, an extensive effort to track down the arsonists has been initiated. Additionally, security measures have been escalated in the Orsu region through the deployment of Optimal Security Operatives from the Joint Task Force, aimed at preventing any recurrence of such incidents.
Okoye emphasized the commitment to bringing those responsible to justice, ensuring that the culprits involved in these activities will face the full consequences of the law.
