The Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum Summit recently engaged in discussions about collaborating with African nations in the fields of education and science.

According to a statement by the Roscongress Foundation, this collaboration was a focal point of a panel discussion titled “Building a Common Future: Educational and Scientific Opportunities of Russia for Africa.”

During the forum, Stanislav Surovtsev, the Vice-Rector for Youth Policy, Social Work, and International Relations at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, expressed Russia’s newfound interest in education collaboration with African countries. He emphasized the significance of establishing a solid foundation for productive and mutually beneficial cooperation.

Kemi Seba, the President of the Pan-African Movement, highlighted that prevailing educational models imposed by the West continue to influence the African continent. He stressed the need for African countries to develop their own educational programs rather than relying solely on European and American models. Seba advocated for cooperation in the 21st century to be unbiased and mutually advantageous.

Natalya Komarova, the Governor of Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra, announced the area’s readiness to admit more students from Africa across diverse fields such as oil and gas, energy, medicine, and IT. Komarova revealed that there are already over 400 international students studying in Yugra, including approximately 20 from Africa, and expressed their willingness to further increase these numbers.

David Okpatuma, a Core Team Member of Friends for Leadership at the Center for International Promotion Foundation, underscored the importance of educational cooperation between Russia and African countries.

In summary, the summit emphasized Russia’s intention to collaborate with African nations in education and science, with discussions centering on the significance of establishing equitable and mutually beneficial partnerships in these fields.
